Children Playing God
Post-show discussion with Skinder Hundal, CEO New Art Exchange
A documentary film by Ashok Vish, follows the lives of five boys (aged 8-14 years old) during their rehearsal period for the month-long Ramlila performance based on the epic poem, Ramayana. Each year, boys hand selected by the king of Ramnagar portray the main characters. They spend two grueling months working with dramatic coaches to perfect their performances. During the entire process, the boys are considered to be living gods and goddesses, and are worshipped by the people of the community. This extraordinary documentary invites us to explore the gap between reality and fiction, highlighting the ordinary aspects of being kids, as they temporarily enter the realm of the divine.
