Converse – River Stage Festival Weekend 2018 at the National Theatre

National Theatre, Upper Ground, Lambeth, London SE1 9PX

Vidya Patel and Shammi Pithia perform in an extraordinary conversation between Kathak dance and contemporary music, at the Sadler's Wells take over of the National Theatre's River Stage Festival 2018.

After their involvement in the electric performance About the Elephant (still touring), Kathak artist Vidya Patel and composer Shammi Pithia have joined forces in their newest collaboration, Converse.

In a journey of solos and duets, the young artists create a mesmerising atmosphere of harmony and frisson as the inherited traditions and emerging modernity of their respective art-forms combine.

This is a chance to experience creative cohesion at it’s finest, at London’s biggest free outdoor festival!

About the artists

Rising star of dance Vidya Patel found fame as the winner of the South Asian category in BBC Young Dancer of the Year 2015, held at Sadler’s Wells. An alumnus of Yuva Gati at the Centre for Advanced Dance Training led by a partnership between Sampad and DanceXchange, she trains under the guidance of leading Kathak exponent, Sujata Banerjee.

Shammi Pithia is continuing to build a solid name for himself as a skilled creative composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist – following the path of great artists such as Nitin Sawhney, who has praised his work. Shammi’s album ‘COSMIC’ hit no.1 in the iTunes world music chart, as did the debut album ‘ShadowLines’ by his band FLUX.
