A monthly series presenting music from india to nurture and uplift the spirit on Saturday lunchtimes

Trained by the legendary sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta, the young Soumik Datta plays his sarod with an elegant and poignant style of his own.

Having authored three albums, his solo performances have won him a global reputation as a rising star of Indian Classical music.

He has also collaborated and performed with Talvin Singh, Beyonce Knowles, dancer Akram Khan and comic Bill Bailey.

Separately Soumik composes for his own world-fusion band Samay.

A Masters graduate in Composition from Trinity College of Music, he has recently collaborated with poet Javed Akhtar to compose for Sangeeta Datta’s forthcoming feature film Life Goes On, already a recipient of the Best Feature award at the Delhi Film festival 2010.
