Asian blues and Desi GuitR reflect and amplify mesmerising visual art
British born Pakistani rock guitarist Dr Aziz Ibrahim (honoris causa), will share some of his journey as a part of his 3rd Arts Council funded project; Project 72 Desiguitr. Museum Mixtape
His solo works include his acclaimed album telling the story of his family’s journey from Lahore To Longsight’, the EP ‘Middle Road’, and album ‘Rusholme Rock with Tabla master Dalbir Singh Rattan’, all showcasing his unique blend of Progressive Rock and Asian Blues.
For this Mid-day Mantra, Aziz will play rock guitar through the prism of South Asian musical instrument styles in a unique and intimate performance including projected visuals created by Matt George of Droid Sculpture.
In the past 3 years Aziz has worked with classical South Asian musicians to create incredible sounds which resonate both in a classic and contemporary contexts. This show culminates in one stunning performance where Asian blues and Desi GuitR reflect and amplify mesmerising visual art.
Aziz has a long and impressive career, his portfolio of work includes 20 years touring with tabla maestro Dalbir Singh Rattan to composing a South Asian Partition Symphony called Amritsar To Lahore To Longsight at theatre 1 Home Manchester, as well as working with international mainstream western artists such as Simply Red, The Stone Roses, Paul Weller, Steven Wilson, Akala and Ian Brown.
