sampad's showcase for local and emerging talent, featuring new work from four Creative Leap artists

Sabha is sampad’s popular showcase for local and emerging talent in music, dance, theatre and spoken word.

This showcase will feature new work produced by four Creative Leap artists including:

  • A contemporary dance performance choreographed by Keisha Grant inspired by the work of Zimbabwean sculptor Albert Nathan Mamvura
  • Marlene McKenzie will perform ‘Lite’, an experimental theatre piece exploring the subject of identity through a young woman’s eyes’
  • CDJ dance company will present an innovative street dance theatre piece on the theme of construction…expect the unexpected
  • Giddha Sansaar will combine traditional Giddha, a popular Lawk Naach from the Punjab specifically for women, with alternative dance forms.

Creative Leap Exhibition
Thu 25 March — Thu 14 April. The Drum, FREE admission
Dee Pate*l presents ‘Land of Hope and Glory’, a set of photographic portraits taken in Handsworth and Anna Fields* presents a series of large scale paintings exploring Britishness.

Creative Leap is a new professional development scheme which aims to give emerging artists the chance to kick start their careers and turn their creative ideas into reality. It is a collaborative project run in partnership by sampad, Ulfah Arts and the Drum. It is funded by Birmingham City Council and Birmingham Cultural Partnership.
