Chai and Chat with Dr Shahmima Akhtar
BOOK HERE
We are delighted to welcome Dr Shahmima Akhtar, Assistant Professor of Black and Asian British History at the University of Birmingham. Her current area of interest is anti racist activism within British Bangladeshi communities in Birmingham in the late twentieth century with a focus on women’s activism. Dr Akhtar will share her own story of growing up in Birmingham and following her dreams to achieve an independent career.
The chat will be led by Sonali Dutta, a Speech and Language Therapist who works with adults and children with communication difficulties. A writer of poetry, articles, and blogs on social, environmental, philosophical and spiritual subjects, Sonali is also an Indian Kathak and folk dancer with interests in exploring nature, and doing things to give back to the community.
Their stories will resonate with many of us and we invite you to come, be part of and share in this conversation with a cup of chai of course…
Chai and Chat is an empowering women-led initiative led by Sampad South Asian Arts and Heritage, crafted to cultivate an atmosphere of informal yet inspiring discussions across a diverse spectrum of topics. This uniquely designed platform serves as more than just a gathering—Sampad endeavour to create a safer space in which open dialogue can take place and ideas explored through conversations with female artists and cultural practitioners.
