Mid-day Mantra: Praveen D Rao and Sanchita Pal

A free monthly series presenting music from India to uplift the spirit on Saturday lunchtimes

Notice of change to the original programme. Due to unforeseen circumstances Dr Jyotsna Srikanth will not be performing on Saturday. Vocalist Sanchita Pal will now be performing with Praveen D Rao.

Escape the hurly-burly, as once a month sampad and Town Hall, Symphony Hall present outstanding Asian artists from the UK and the Indian subcontinent in relaxed, informal sessions. Chill out, take your shoes off, close your eyes and experience the richness and variety of India’s musical heritage.

This month features composer and musician Praveen D Rao and Sanchita Pal.

Praveen is a versatile multi-instrumentalist with an international reputation, based in Bangalore. He is equally at home on a range of percussion, keyboards and electronic media.

As a composer, Praveen has created a style of his own fusing Hindusthani and Carnatic music with western techniques and over the past fifteen years has composed scores for theatre, ballet, film and television. He has worked extensively in the UK, composing music for Chitraleka Dance Company and Moby Duck Theatre Company. He recently released a CD, Earth n Beat with Carnatic violinist Jyotsna Srikanth.
