Midday Mantra: Vasant, Celebrating Spring
Translating to Spring, our Vasant edition of Midday Mantra marks globally recognised traditions. From the Punjabi festival of Vaisakhi to the Hindu festival of Holi, to celebrations found across the world, this joyful concert will foster appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures, musical styles and artistic expressions.

Our featured artist is Simrandeep Kaur, a passionate Taus* artist and dedicated music educator specialising in Indian classical music. Trained under renowned maestros Bhai Siripal Singh ji, Ms. Shruti Kumar, and Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, she excels in solo and ensemble performances, Gurbani Sangeet, and Hindustani classical music. Simrandeep has performed at prestigious events like the Palace of Westminster and taught music in the UK. Her achievements include royal recognition and awards at prominent Indian music competitions. She’s committed to promoting Indian classical music through performances, workshops, and community outreach.
*A bowed string instrument from North India. Taus is Persian for ‘peacock’.

Simrandeep will be accompanied by Mehar-Jot Singh Sagoo on tabla. He is a dedicated student of the internationally renowned Ustaad Surdarshan Singh Chana, who he began learning from at the age of 6. Mehar-Jot’s playing style draws heavily on the Benaras and Punjab Gharanas, learning an extensive repertoire of authentic compositions that have been passed down through the ages.
In addition to Simrandeep and Mehar-Jot’s performance at Vasant, you can also enjoy a set of well known, upbeat classic hits from Indian vocalist Sumana Basu.
