Roopa Panesar, one of the UK’s finest sitarists performs with tabla player Sukhwinder Singh Namdhari
Considered one of the finest Sitarists to emerge on the Indian music scene in the UK, Roopa Panesar has been praised by audiences and her peers for her outstanding ability. Her soulful and unique style of playing has enthralled her listeners.
Roopa has given successful high profile concerts at major venues in London, Birmingham and Leicester and given recitals in the House of Commons London, NEC Birmingham, Berlin and Copenhagen. She recently recorded music for the soundtrack of the critically acclaimed film, ‘West is West’ and performed as a guest artist in the John Lennon Tribute Concert held at the Echo Arena, Liverpool.
Sukhwinder Singh Namdhari, dearly known as “Pinky” is one of the UK’s most sought after tabla players, trained under Ustad Nihal Singh Ji and Pandit Kishan Maharaj. He has given performances with many great names like Pt. Ravi Shankar (sitar), Ut Amjad Ali Khan (sarod), Pt. Hari Prasad Chaursia (flute), Pt. Jas Raj (vocalist) and many more, touring extensively across USA and India. He won a Grammy Award in 1994 with Ry Cooder for the composition “A meeting by the river”.
