A stunning dance interpretation of Tagore’s poem ‘The Child’, in celebration of Tagore’s 150th anniversary

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rabindranath Tagore, the world-renowned Bengali poet, Tanusree Shankar Dance Company perform ‘The Child’ – Tagore’s only poem written originally in English.

By marrying the grace and beauty of traditional Indian dances with the expressive elegance of modern western ballet, internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Tanusree Shankar leads her company in original, contemporary Indian choreography. This dynamic performance is complemented by the innovative music of her late husband Ananda Shankar, son of Uday Shankar, leading proponent of Indian Dance Ballet and nephew of Maestro Ravi Shankar.

Tanusree Shankar’s interpretation of ‘The Child’ depicts a flowing, rhythmic, spiritual journey of Man through the ages, from the bondage of ignorance, to the freedom of enlightenment and self realisation.

At the same time, it is also a celebration of the mother — the feminine principle in the universe.

Tanusree Shankar Dance Company is one of the leading exponents of contemporary dance in India.
