Every sari has a story and we’re looking to share yours.
Presented by Midlands Arts Centre and Sampad South Asian Arts and Heritage, Sari Stories is a new exhibition opening in May 2025. As part of this exhibition, we’re showcasing personal reflections on the sari.
Whether it’s the excitement (and challenge!) of draping your very first sari, a cherished heirloom sari passed down from generation to generation, or even one that brings up mixed emotions, we want to know! Is there a sari that reminds you of a special moment in your life such as a wedding, a festival, or a milestone celebration?
Do you have a sari that holds a sentimental story? Whatever your sari story looks like, we’d love for you to share it with us.
How can I submit my story?
Fill out the form linked below. We will need some pictures or perhaps a video, and will need a little bit of writing and personal information. If you have any questions please email saristories@sampad.org.uk
How to Submit Your Story
- Our Sari Stories callout has now closed. Join our mailing list to find out about the Sari Stories exhibition, opening May 2025 at Midlands Arts Centre.
Who can Submit A Story
- We are keen to share stories from a diverse range of voices, capturing a spectrum of identities and experiences. A sari can hold so many different emotions and experiences for different people, whether its an act of reclaiming ones identity, an expression of identity or a connection to heritage. Whether it’s about joy, struggle, transformation, or simply a love for the fabric, we welcome all your sari stories.
- The only criteria are that you live in the Midlands. If you are under 16 years old we will require your parents/guardian’s permission.
- We welcome applications that reflect the diversity of our local population.
Please note that while we’d love to share all the stories, we may only feature a selection in the exhibition.
