Midday Mantra: International Day of Peace

Join Sampad and B:Music for International Day of Peace with Satwinder Pal Singh and Gurdain Rayatt Singh.

For this Midday Mantra, Satwinder will perform a raag, moving through melodies and improvisation to create a musical performance for the globally recognised International Day of Peace.  He will be accompanied by Gurdain Rayatt Singh on tabla.

About Satwinder Pal Singh
Satwinder’s musical journey began at the age of 11 under the tutelage of his father, Ustad S. Shaminder Pal Singh, an A-grade Sarangi player and retired staff artist of All India Radio, Jalandhar. His father is a disciple of the legendary Padma Bhushan Ustad Sabri Khan Saheb, the Sarangi Sammrat. Drawing upon the rich legacy of his family’s musical heritage, Satwinder received intense training in Sarangi, Saranda and vocal from his father, mastering these classical instruments.

Satwinder has achieved awards and recognition around the world and has collaborated with esteemed musicians including Padma Bhushan Ustad Sabri Khan, Padam Vibushan Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Taufiq Qureshi, Ustad Fazal Qureshi and many other great musicians.

About Gurdain Rayatt
Born in UK, Gurdain Rayatt is one of the leading tabla players and teachers in UK and Europe performing internationally with renowned Indian Classical musicians as well as world/crossover and fusion projects spanning several genres.

He has accompanied some of the great legends of the Indian Classical music world including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Kushal Das, Rakesh Chaurasia, Purbayan Chatterjee, Niladri Kumar, Anoushka Shankar and many more.

He is now a disciple of Pandit Yogesh Samsi, taking continuous taleem to further his knowledge, understanding and development of performance aesthetics, expression and accompaniment to even greater heights. Gurdain has also learnt his art from some of the other great tabla players through workshops and individual sessions including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Pandit Suresh Talwalkar, and Pandit Kumar Bose.

The series invites audiences to immerse themselves in the rich sounds of traditional ragas and contemporary compositions. By bringing together top-tier musicians from across the world, Sampad contributes to the preservation and evolution of South Asian musical heritage.

Midday Mantra is more than a concert series; it is a cultural odyssey that transcends boundaries, fostering appreciation and understanding of the diverse musical traditions that shape the South Asian diaspora.
