For our April edition, we are celebrating the Punjabi festival of Vaisakhi with Kaviraj Singh, Gurdain Rayatt and Kathak dancer, Seetal Kaur.

Kaviraj Singh is a skilled musician renowned for his mastery of the Santoor and Indian classical vocals. From a young age, he showed remarkable talent, influenced by his musical family. He began his training in santoor with his father, a Sitar maestro, and further refined his skills under Ustad Harjinderpal Singh, a disciple of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. Kaviraj is also known for his soulful voice, honed under Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty in the Patiala vocal tradition.

His performances, both in the UK and globally, have earned him acclaim for his technical brilliance, emotional depth, and artistic finesse. Kaviraj continues to leave a lasting impact on the world of Indian classical music.

Gurdain Rayatt tabla player

Gurdain Rayatt is one of the leading tabla players in the UK today. Classically trained from the age of 3 by his father and grandfather, Gurdain became a disciple of the maestro Late Pandit Shankar Ghosh and is now a disciple of Pandit Yogesh Samsi. He has performed many times at the Darbar Festival and on numerous occasions at the famous WOMAD Festival and prestigious venues such as the Southbank Centre and Royal Albert Hall.

Seetal Kaur

Seetal Kaur combines her love for rhythm and music with swift movement and emotive expression as a Kathak dancer. She started learning Kathak with Amina Khayyam and toured nationally and internationally with the company’s production of ‘Yerma’ from 2013-2015. For the past 8 years, Seetal has been focusing on developing her Kathak practice under Smt. Aditi Sen and has also been seeking guidance from Guru Pandit Rajendra Gangani for intensive periods in India, Switzerland and the UK.
