Sampad presents Giddha Sansaar at JQ Festival
Giddha Sansaar bring colourful, energetic dance to JQBID’s very first Jewellery Quarter Festival — a weekend of events celebrating the diversity and creativity of the Quarter.
Giddha Sansaar are an all-female group of dancers who specialise in traditional Punjabi Giddha. Their movements are derived from an ancient dance, which was performed by Punjabi women at social gatherings. Like its male counterpart Bhangra, Giddha is a bright, colourful and energetic dance form which is usually performed to rhythmic clapping and Boliyan (traditional folk songs). Founded in 2009 by Jagdis Kumar, the group has already delivered many high profile performances across UK and abroad. Their lively, colourful and enthusiastic performance style has made them a hit with audiences from all cultures.
The JQ Festival (17-19 July) has been organised by the Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (JQBID) and will officially mark the opening of The Golden Square.
It will feature the first ever Jewellery Quarter Open Studios, which will give visitors the chance to go behind the scenes of some of the most inspired work-spaces and experience the wide variety of creative work that takes place across the Quarter.
As part of this fun-filled event, which runs from Friday 17th to Sunday July 19th, you can take a look at some of the brilliant industries that have their home here, including graphic designers, sculptors, glass makers and etchers, film makers, photographers, jewellery makers, game designers, and 3D printers.
There will also be a whole host of family- friendly activities, including a walkabout puppet act, helter-skelter, photo booths, face painting and workshops, plus plenty of free outdoor performances, featuring musicians, bands, theatre and dance troupes, at The Golden Square and St Paul’s Square.
