UK PREMIERE

“A thrilling double bill by internationally acclaimed dancers, featuring two classical South Asian styles” Lucie Mirkova, IDFB Programme Manager

Sujata & Preetisha Mohapatra present Sangachhadhwam

Sujata & Preetisha Mohapatra present Sangachhadhwam meaning “walking on the same path together”. This performance is an offering to Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra from his student and daughter-in-law Sujata Mohapatra as she carries forward his legacy along with her daughter Preetisha.

The oldest surviving Indian dance form, Odissi has its roots in temple ritual with the modern interpretation inspired by temple sculptures and nature.

Sujata was a student and daughter-in-law of one of the most famous exponents of the artform, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She teaches as the Principal of Srjan, a leading Odissi dance institution founded by Kelucharan Mohapatra.

She now presents her daughter, an upcoming Odissi dancer of considerable command, as they carry forward the legacy, featuring compositions from Pt. Bhubaneswar Mishra and Pt. Raghunath Panigrahi and choreographies of Kelucharan Mohapatra and Ratikant Mohapatra.

Shijith Nambiar & Parvathy Menon present Sandhya

Spellbinding duo Shijith Nambiar and Parvathy Menon showcase the intricacies and spirituality of Bharatanatyam dance with their performance, Sandhya.

Shijith has an exceptional sense of music and rhythm while Parvathy brings an elegance to their choreography with her outstanding expressive skills and ability.

The pair trained at Kalakshetra, a cultural academy dedicated to the preservation of traditional values in Indian art, especially in the field of Bharatanatyam dance, and went on to found their own dance school, Samradhya.
