Despite the rainy weather, our half term Create an Change family day at Dolphin Women’s Centre themed around ‘Sunshine’ was a resounding success. The day was packed with creativity and community spirit, proving that sunshine can indeed be found even when the weather is not on our side.
Our day began with artist Daya Bhatti, who guided the participants through creating fabric collages adorned with sun motifs. Daya’s engaging approach captivated both adults and children, ensuring everyone was involved and inspired. Her ability to connect with participants of all ages was wonderful.
After lunch, the creativity continued with an afternoon session led by Sampad Learning Officer, Naomi. Participants crafted vibrant stained glass art using tissue paper and sticky-back plastic. This activity was a hit, drawing in a large number of participants and filling the room with bright, colorful creations.
We were thrilled to have over fifty participants, including some familiar faces from our regular sessions. The strong turnout and positive feedback reinforced the value of these community art sessions. Some of the comments from the young people were were:
- ‘I felt happy’
- I enjoyed it, it a very fun!’
- ‘Today has been really great!’
- ‘It was fun, so fun!’
In conclusion, our Sunshine-themed family day was a fantastic experience filled with creativity and camaraderie. We’re looking forward to implementing the lessons learned and continuing to bring our community together through art and creativity.
